  1. Rotation in the F1 was shown by FRET (Fluorescence Resonance Energy Transfer): two fluorescent dyes were bound to the enzyme (one at rotor, one at stator). A nice three-step pattern was observed upon ATP synthesis (!) and hydrolysis. Abstract A4, Michael Börsch et al.
  2. Wolfgang Junge in his lecture presented experimental data suggesting that during catalysis the "upper region" (12 C-terminal  aminoacid residues) of gamma subunit  i) can be cross-linked with alpha subunit without the loss of activity; ii) can be cut off without the loss of activity. One of the possible explanations proposed was that the rotation of gamma subunit is around covalent bond of the polypeptide chain below the C-terminal region, while this region itself is fixed in the alpha 3 beta 3  "crown" of the enzyme. (Müller, M. et al)
  3. Molecular mechanism of ATP synthesis was further refined by Alan Senior and Joahim Weber.  Abstract A44.
